While we prepare for the construction of the New West Parish Water Treatment Plant, the show must go on at the existing West Parish Filters Water Treatment Plant. Proactive improvements are being made in-house to ensure that reliable service for our customers is never interrupted during construction.

Enhancements by SWSC Water Operations Staff
The Commission’s dedicated Water Operations team has been hard at work implementing several key upgrades to optimize operations at the existing plant:
Installation of New Chlorinators for disinfection – Ensures effective disinfection and maintains high water quality by replacing aging chlorinators.
Slow Sand Valve Replacement – Enhances operational efficiency for the existing slow sand filters, which are important for peak demand periods and as an emergency backup.
Rapid Sand Filter Upgrades – Improving filtration performance and reliability.
Replacement of nozzles in filter beds to improve efficiency during daily filter backwashes [cleaning].
Replenishment of filter media as needed.
Securing and stabilizing troughs to prevent structural damage during daily filter backwashes.
Repairing spalled and cracked concrete.
Operators man the controls above the rapid sand filters while West Parish operations staff work as a team to fix structural deficiencies in the filter beds.
Looking Ahead
These improvements are part of the Commission’s commitment to maintaining reliable water service for our customers during construction of the new New West Parish Water Treatment Plant.
Stay tuned for more updates as we move forward with construction!
