October / November Construction Update

During the month of October, crews focused on continuing the excavation south of the existing treatment plant and preparing for the installation of the raw water pipelines that will supply Commission customers now into the future. These two enormous concrete-lined steel pipes will carry water north to the new water treatment plant from the new Energy Dissipation Valve (or EDV) that’s nearing completion. The EDV is located at the Sedimentation Basin, which is currently where 40 million gallons of untreated reservoir water is stored before entering the treatment plant. Above is the approximate location of the future pipeline.
Here, crews are preparing to install about 200 feet of pipe parallel to Granville Road.
Once excavation was complete, crews created bedding for the pipe by layering stone with pipe filter fabric in the trench, then compacting it.
In early November, just as the first sections of pipe started showing up on flatbed trucks from Kansas, a crane was mobilized on site. Once inspected, the crane was rolled onto timber mats and put into action lifting pipe sections into position. This crane will be a long-term fixture on site throughout construction.
The welders are working on pipe fit-up for 5 and 6-feet tall sections of pipe. These are the pipes that will bring our water supply into the new West Parish Water Treatment Plant for many decades to come.
