Feeling Thankful for New Filters and the Future

To say we are grateful for the year we’ve had at the Commission would be an understatement. After years of hard work and planning, we have finally broken ground on the New West Parish Water Treatment Plant. This new plant is a generational investment that will serve our community for decades to come.
This fall, as we celebrated the groundbreaking and the future of water treatment for Springfield and surrounding towns, we also reflected back on the history at West Parish Filters. In 1909 the original slow sand filters constructed at West Parish were marveled for their ingenuity as renowned engineers came to examine their cutting-edge design. After more than 100 years in service, several of the existing slow sand filters will soon be demolished, making way for the new state-of-the-art treatment plant, bringing our water treatment infrastructure into the 21st century.
Things may look quiet at the site over the next few months, but we aren’t hibernating. We’re mobilizing our construction teams and preparing the site for this major, multi-year project that will kick off in earnest in 2025 with the demolition of the slow sand filters. The story of the New West Parish Water Treatment Plant is only just beginning.
Until then, subscribe to our newsletter to learn more about what the new plant will entail, from its energy-saving efficiencies to its advanced treatment technologies, be the first to know when the next chapter of construction begins. Subscribe here: www.newwestparish.com/
Happy Thanksgiving!
