Site Transformation

July marked a big milestone for the project: the 1925 slow sand filters have been fully demolished! The construction site is now visibly transformed, with the oldest sand filters gone and about half of the new treatment plant footprint cleared.

Demolition Milestone

This month, a major highlight was the demolition of Regulator House 3, a building that historically housed operations for filters 7–10 before newer systems were installed. Those fortunate to attend a past tour of West Parish Filters may recall entering this building to access the underground sand beds. For West Parish staff, watching Regulator House 3 come down was bittersweet, as it was a part of the daily lives of a century of water operators.

Concrete Encasement Progress

Work continued on concrete encasement and rebar installation for transmission mains. The process is slow and steady, with new sections poured and backfilled as crews move northward.

The raw water transmission pipes installed over the last few months are now being encased in concrete.

Storm Drain Rerouting

Crews installed new storm drain pipes to reroute drainage around the footprint of the new water treatment plant, ensuring site drainage is maintained as the project advances.

Looking Ahead

The next steps include continued concrete encasement, storm drain connections, and preparation for further building demolition.
